The Dicovery of The Atom V1.52 September 1993 - Licenseware Version
Hello.
To run properly, this presentation requires the following set-up:
a. 1.5MB RAM
b. 2 Disk-Drives
The presentation should run OK on 1 Meg machines but you probably won't be
able to see some of the big animation files. Also The presentation will run
from 1 disk-drive but your probably be driven mad by the disk swapping.
Getting Started
To load the presentation, double click on the Discovery_of_the_Atom icon.
After a short while the title page and title music will appear. Press the
right mouse button to carry on. There will be a short delay while the main
program is loaded and de-crunched.
You will then see the first contents page with a spinning atom. Click on the
instruction button for instructions and the let's go button to get to the
main contents page.
Inportant Info
1. In order for this presentation to work properly, you should have 2 disks,
the first one (with this read_me file on) must be called Nuke1 and the
second disk must be called Nuke2. If they are not the presentation will
not work because the program will be looking for files on disks called
Nuke1 and Nuke2 and you will get a "insert volume Nuke1/Nuke2" requester.
2. I decided to keep this presentation to two disks and had some trouble
doing this (hence the powerpacked files). I would have liked to gone
into more detail on some things particularly more illustrations and
animations but I could see that going over 2 disks would mean mucho
disk swapping, something I wanted to avoid at all costs. This has meant
some of the stuff produced during the small hours I have had to dump.
C'est la vie!
3. You can quit from the presentation, but only from the first title page.
Press the right mouse button to display the menu bar showing the version
number, licenseware registration and quit menus.
4. You can install to hard drive (dh0). This will make it run much faster.
To install to hard drive click on the 'Install' icon and all the files
should be copied over. To run, click on the 'Assign_Dota' icon and then
on the 'discovery_of_the_atom icon as normal.
5. In order to work from hard drive, your libs directory must have the
mathieeedoubas.library and the mathieeesingtrans.library in it. These
should be there anyway. I haven't tried installing this on pre Kickstart
2.0 machines, but I hope it works ok. If it doesn't, and you have a
reasonable understanding of Amigados (if you've got a hard drive you
must have some idea!) create a directory called 'dota' and copy
both disks including directories into this dh0:dota. In the c directory
of nuke2: you will find the assign icon. Copy this into dh0:dota not
dh0:dota/c (otherwise you won't be able to see it)! Make sure the rest
of the contents of nuke2:c are copied into dh0:dota/c. Also in the C
directory of Nuke2: there is a hard drive version of 'Discovery_of_the_
atom'. Copy this to the Dh0:dota directory rather than the version on
Nuke1: because this version doesn't have a wait statement in it which I
included in the floppy version to prevent excessive disk thrashing. Please
note that in order to use the 'read_me_first!' icon on a harddrive, you
must use 'Assign_Dota' first so the program knows to read the information
from the hard drive.
6. If you want to change the name of the directory on the harddisk, or move
it to somewhere else you will need to edit the assign icon so the program
knows where to look for the files. Say for example, you want to change the
directory from 'dota' to 'atom', and you want to move the whole directory
to your 'misc' directory of your hard disk. You will need to edit the
assign file to read:
assign nuke1: dh0:misc/atom
assign nuke2: dh0:misc/atom
7. You will see from below that this is my first major attempt at writing
something reasonably interesting (but then I am slightly bias) and I
hope you enjoy as much as I didn't when I had to keep changing the
format all the time.
8. This thing took me ages to put together and so I am releasing it as
Licenseware. If you like it, and use it, please send me 3 Pounds. For
your troubles I will send you a small booklet detailing the contents of
the presentation, so that you can easily use it.
Thanks,
Paul Matthews
